HANDCUFFS FOR A ‘HOAX’?: DOJ receives Gabbard criminal referral over Trump-Russia claims (video)

In a significant development concerning the ongoing Trump-Russia investigation, Tulsi Gabbard, the Director of National Intelligence, has submitted a criminal referral to the Department of Justice, alleging that officials from the Obama administration orchestrated a campaign to discredit former President Donald Trump following his election victory in 2016. Gabbard claims that a series of fabricated intelligence assessments were created to support the narrative that Trump colluded with Russia to influence the outcome of the presidential election.

During an appearance on “Sunday Morning Futures,” Gabbard asserted that the actions of the Obama administration and its officials represent one of the largest political scandals in recent history. She emphasized that the intelligence community’s efforts to undermine Trump were motivated by dissatisfaction with the election’s outcome. “We had a sitting president of the United States and his cabinet and leadership team who were not happy with the fact that President Trump had won the election,” Gabbard stated. “They decided that they would do everything possible to try to undermine his ability to do what voters tasked President Trump to do.”

The release of more than a hundred documents on the matter has intensified scrutiny of the intelligence community’s actions during and after the 2016 election. Critics argue that these documents illustrate a coordinated effort to mislead the American public regarding Trump’s alleged ties to Russia. Mark Tissson, a contributor at Fox News, described the situation as potentially one of the worst political scandals of our time, highlighting that extensive investigations into Trump’s supposed collusion yielded no evidence to substantiate those claims.

In response to Gabbard’s revelations, some Democratic officials have dismissed the findings as reiterating previously unsubstantiated claims. Jim Himes, a Democratic Congressman, criticized Gabbard’s comments, labeling them as dangerous misinformation that risks inciting violence. Tissson defended Gabbard’s position, arguing that the intelligence community had misled the public and calling for accountability for those involved in the alleged conspiracy.

Investigative journalist Matt Taibbi has also weighed in on the matter, suggesting that the criminal investigations now targeting former President Obama and his senior officials stem from decisions made in late 2016 to suppress key intelligence briefings. Taibbi noted that documents released by Gabbard indicate a potential cover-up aimed at delegitimizing Trump’s presidency.

As the DOJ begins its review of Gabbard’s referral, the implications of these allegations could reverberate throughout the political landscape. The inquiry not only raises questions about the integrity of the intelligence community but also revisits the contentious narrative surrounding Russian interference in the 2016 election. Gabbard and her supporters insist that accountability is necessary to restore trust in American democratic institutions.

In the wake of these developments, discussions among lawmakers have begun regarding the potential for congressional hearings to investigate the allegations further. Republican Congressman Pat Fallon expressed the need for thorough accountability, emphasizing that undermining public trust in intelligence agencies poses a significant threat to democracy.

As the situation evolves, the focus shifts toward the Justice Department’s response to Gabbard’s findings and the broader implications for those involved in the investigation. The forthcoming weeks may yield important revelations that could reshape public understanding of the events surrounding the 2016 election and the subsequent actions taken by U.S. intelligence agencies.
