Israel warns ‘Tehran will burn’ as Iran fires drones and missiles in response to strikes (video)

In a dramatic escalation of hostilities, Israel is on high alert following a barrage of missiles and drones launched by Iran in retaliation for recent strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. The conflict, which has long simmered between the two nations, has now reached a critical tipping point, prompting Israel to issue stark warnings of severe consequences.

Overnight, multiple ballistic missiles were fired from Iran, targeting cities including Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. While Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system successfully intercepted the majority of the projectiles, some managed to breach the defenses, resulting in the destruction of homes and apartments. Eyewitness Moshe Shani recounted the harrowing experience of hearing air raid sirens and rushing to a shelter moments before an explosion rattled his building.

The Israeli government had anticipated a retaliatory response from Tehran, especially following its airstrikes aimed at Iranian nuclear sites and the assassination of key military personnel. However, the intensity of the Iranian attack has caught many off guard. Israel’s Defense Minister warned that Iran “will burn” as a consequence of its aggression, while Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called on the Iranian people to rise against their leadership, describing the current regime as “weaker than ever.”

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) released footage showcasing their counterattacks, which they claim successfully targeted surface-to-surface missile launchers across Iran. This ongoing conflict, marked by high-stakes military actions, brings both nations perilously close to the brink of all-out war.

International reactions have been swift, with calls for de-escalation emerging from various global leaders, including the United Nations Secretary-General. British Foreign Secretary David Lammy expressed his alarm at the developments and has reached out to Iranian officials to urge restraint. However, the UK’s position has shifted significantly since last year, when military support was offered to defend Israel against Iranian threats. Currently, relations between the UK and Israel are strained, especially following Britain’s recent criticism of Israel’s actions in Gaza and its imposition of sanctions on right-wing Israeli ministers.

As tensions rise, the potential for broader conflict looms large. Iran has issued warnings that it would target military assets of nations supporting Israel, including the United States and France, should they choose to intervene. The situation remains fluid, and analysts are closely monitoring the developments, awaiting any signs of escalation or diplomatic resolution.

The stakes are high, and as the region braces for what might come next, the international community watches with bated breath, hopeful for a pathway to peace amidst the escalating violence.
