A third officer from the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office was also wounded but managed to seek cover in his vehicle. Both he and his police service dog were later transported to a local hospital and are currently in fair condition.

The suspect, whose identity has not yet been released, was apprehended after bystanders intervened, convincing him to surrender his weapon. He has since been booked on charges of aggravated murder, as investigators from the Weber County Attorney’s Office continue to piece together the tragic events of the night.

“This is a heartbreaking moment for our community, state, and nation,” said Police Chief Chad Reyes during a press briefing. “These officers dedicated their lives to serve and protect, and their sacrifice will not be forgotten.”

As the investigation unfolds, SWAT teams remain on the scene, ensuring no further threats exist. The community is urged to stay clear of the area as law enforcement processes the scene. Support is pouring in for the families of the fallen officers, as well as the injured deputy and his canine partner.
