In the past year, the #Barbiecore trend gained immense popularity. While this year embraces a more refined and minimalist approach to fashion, influenced by the “quiet luxury” reminiscent of “Succession,” the fascination with the color pink might make a comeback due to the upcoming release of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie. As promotional activities commence, the cast has been making appearances in delightful, candy-colored outfits, particularly Margot Robbie, who stars as Barbie.
Recently, at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills, Margot showcased an ensemble reminiscent of Malibu Barbie. She donned a custom-made hot pink and white halter-neck minidress designed by Valentino, featuring a midriff cut-out. Fashion enthusiasts might notice that this dress closely resembles a look from Valentino’s spring 1993 collection, previously worn by supermodel Karen Mulder, who was often likened to a “real-life Barbie” during her heyday. However, Margot’s version is updated with a flirtier twist and is shorter in length compared to the original Bordeaux-colored midi dress.
Completing her outfit, Margot chose white leather Manolo Blahnik BB pumps and carried a yellow Valentino Garavani Rockstud shoulder bag.
Margot’s custom Valentino dress is a modern interpretation of the one previously worn by Karen Mulder on the brand’s spring 1993 runway.
Gisele BΓΌndchen is seen wearing the same dress she donned 16 years ago.
After her discovery in the early ’90s, Mulder quickly rose to international stardom, earning the esteemed title of a supermodel. She graced the catwalks of renowned fashion houses such as Chanel, Versace, Yves Saint Laurent, Valentino, and more. Besides her captivating presence on the runway, the Dutch model became famous for her Barbie-like features: standing tall at 5ft10, blessed with luscious blonde locks, and striking blue eyes. Given these similarities, it is only fitting for Margot to pay homage to Mulder while promoting the film.
Just a day before, at another event, the actor showcased yet another picture-perfect Barbie look, posing gracefully by a pink convertible, as one would naturally expect. The ensemble consisted of a vibrant baby-pink crop top paired with a matching pleated miniskirt, which the film’s official Instagram account proudly shared. Margot added the finishing touches with white cat-eye shades, a cute pink Bottega Veneta mini Cabat bag, pink Manolo Blahnik open-toe mules, and a dazzling gold Chanel rhinestone ankle bracelet. It seems we can anticipate even more pink-themed looks to come.
