His ‘Risky Business’ co-star says Tom wasn’t very discreet about hiding what he was really doing.
Tom Cruise has been the subject of dozens of bizarre rumors over his decades-long career. But perhaps one of the strangest assertions came from an ex-co-star who claims Tom used his religion to disguise an addiction in a very obvious way.
In his new memoir Revenge of the Nerd, Curtis Armstrong opened up about working with Tom on 1983’s Risky Business, one of the movies to arguably help solidify Tom’s reputation as a Hollywood heartthrob. This was a time when Tom’s career was beginning to take off, and Curtis says the young actor knew exactly where he was going.
Curtis Armstrong Says Tom Cruise Wasn’t Really Hosting Bible Study
While Curtis wrote that Tom was serious and disciplined on set, working with him became complicated thanks to his personal life – more specifically, his on-set affairs.
Tom’s former co-star recalled how he had a fling with their co-star Rebecca De Mornay, making things complicated. But perhaps the most intriguing revelation Curtis made was the allegation that Tom used his religion to mask what he was actually doing.
Curtis alleges that Tom would claim to be hosting bible study in his room, but it looked suspicious when young women were coming and going. Curtis seemingly implied that Tom was hiding his proclivity for women through his religion.
“They just stared at me, and at that moment, Tom’s door opened and another girl came out, adjusting her hair and taking off down the hall, while the first girl in line slipped into Tom’s room,” he explained in the memoir.
“This was a young man who knew something about time management and understood how to successfully juggle Bible study and bl*w j*bs,” Curtis continued. “I went to bed alone that night thinking it served me right for not being religious.”
Tom Cruise Is Allegedly Distancing Himself From Scientology
via InstarCurtis’ allegations come at an interesting time for Tom, as it was alleged earlier this month that he’s left the Church of Scientology, after being a prominent member for decades.
Tom has spent the past three years predominantly in the UK, working on his latest film projects. Although he has been captured in photographs in various locations such as Birmingham and Cotswolds, it’s been noted that he hasn’t been at the UK Scientology headquarters nor at the Church of Scientology’s building in Central London.
These circumstances are giving rise to theories that the actor might be deliberately creating distance from Scientology. Rumors regarding this situation initially surfaced in 2021, coinciding with reports of Tom experiencing a period of “religious crisis.”
Up to this point, Tom has chosen not to address the ongoing speculations, which is surprising given the significant role the Church has played in his personal affairs. There have been claims that Scientology had a part to play in his divorces from Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes. Moreover, there is strong speculation that the Church might be a factor in his absence from his daughter Suri, 17, from his marriage with Katie.
Nevertheless, Tom’s older children, Isabella and Connor, from his marriage to Nicole, remain prominent members of the church, so if Tom has actually quite Scientology, it could create a big rupture in their family.
