It has now surpassed Deadpool, hitting over $368 m at the box office. But it isn’t the success of the film that means something to women and girls; it’s the message and the strength the movie represents.

In an interview with Glamour magazine, Gadot commented on what she wanted Wonder Woman to portray: “For Batman v. Superman it was important for me that we show how independent she is. She is not relying on a man, and she’s not there because of a love story. She’s not there to serve someone else. She has so many strengths and powers, but at the end of the day she’s a woman with a lot of emotional intelligence. She’s loving.”

She continued, saying, “And it’s all her heart – that’s her strength. I think women are amazing for being able to show what they feel. I admire women who do. I think it’s a mistake when women cover their emotions to look tough. I say let’s own who we are and use it as a strength.”

Yaron Versano, Gal Gadot’s husband, is proud to support his wife and watch her strength shine through on the big screen. Versano, who married Gadot in 2008, even took his proud support to Instagram when he posted an amazing picture. In the photo, Versano is standing next to and pointing to a seated Gadot while wearing a T-shirt featuring a photo of a stick figure of a woman with the caption “Your Wife” next to a silhouette of Wonder Woman with the caption “My Wife.”

Together, Gadot and Versano have two little girls – Alma, who is five, and Maya, who was born this past March.

The Wonder Woman actress is a strong woman who clearly has a wealth of support from her family. When asked about how it feels to portray “one of the most iconic feminist figures change your own personal feelings on feminism” Gadot answered, “There are such misconceptions as to what a feminist is. Feminism is about equality. I want all people to have the same opportunities and to get the same salaries for the same jobs. I realize I’m doing what I want to do because of the women before me who laid the groundwork. Without them I wouldn’t be an educated working mother who is following her dreams; I wouldn’t be here.”

Gadot and her husband certainly are a great example of a couple that truly has each other’s backs, and one in which each partner is happy to support the other’s successes.
