There were wild scenes in Sydney last night as visiting Hollywood star Zendaya stepped onto the red carpet for the Australian premiere of her latest film.
Zendaya, 27, attended the premiere along with her co-stars in Luca Guadagnino’s new dark romantic comedy Challengers,The Crown actor Josh O’Connor and West Side Story performer Mike Faist.
But the Dune actress slightly upstaged her fellow actors, earning huge cheers from the hundreds-strong crowd of fans as she made her appearance at Sydney’s State Theatre.
People reports that Zendaya’s glittering, plunging green gown was custom Loewe by Jonathan Anderson.
She accessorised with Bulgari, wearing a pair of High Jewellery earrings and a Serpenti ring.
And eagle-eyed fans will notice her custom gown played to the theme of the movie she was in the country to promote: It featured the figure of a tennis player in shadow across the front.
In Challengers, Zendaya plays a pro tennis player locked in a love triangle with her husband and his former best friend.
Meanwhile, this week there’s been some unwelcome news for fans of Zendaya’s breakout role in the HBO series Euphoria: The show’s long-awaited third season has just been delayed yet again.
The gritty high school drama premiered in 2019, with a second series following in 2022. Zendaya won an Emmy for her portrayal of troubled teen Rue in the show – but fans hoping to see her reprise the role may be in for a long wait.
“HBO and Sam Levinson remain committed to making an exceptional third season,” an HBO spokesperson told Variety. “In the interim, we are allowing our in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities.”
The outlet reports that scripts for the show’s third season are still being written.
