Drew McIntyre has signed a new deal with the WWE as revealed by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.
The 38-year-old Scottish fighter previously announced his intentions to leave the WWE, with his original contract at the organisation set to expire in May.
McIntyre starred at the recent WrestleMania event by beating Seth Rollins and becoming the new WWE world heavyweight champion and has now signed a fresh commitment to extend his stay.
The Rock was the first to announce his co-competitor would be staying part of WWE’s superstar roster in a bizarre exchange that saw McIntyre presented with an iconic Scottish sword.
McIntyre was interrupted while in discussions with WWE president Nick Khan as the Rock shared a video on his Instagram page celebrating McIntyre’s new contract extension.
Posting the video of McIntyre on social media, the Rock said: ‘As you’re a man of yours – Congratulations Drew McIntyre on signing your new deal.
‘As we talked about after your WrestleMania match, I know this Scottish Claymore represents everything that you, your family and your country embody.
‘Alba gu bràth. As you know, I wanted to personally hand deliver this gift to you at your meeting with Nick Khan, but I had warm cheat meals and chilled tequila waiting for me,’ he continued.
‘Congrats again brother and cheers to hunger, passion, climbing that mountain and always entertaining our fans. Final Boss,’ finished The Rock.
McIntyre appeared surprise at the generous present gifted to him by Johnson, but appeared delighted at the gesture.
His signature marks a breakthrough in negotiations for the WWE who previously feared they could lose one of their biggest stars to a rival organisation.
There is yet to be any official confirmation from the WWE despite the Rock’s announcement.
