“The Death of Slim Shady” lead single debuts at No. 1 on ten Billboard charts simultaneously.
We are not talking exclusively about genre-specific charts that were destined to bow to Shady. His new song tops sales and streams-based rankings and shows the best performance globally. Eminem is not just dominating the rap game, he is leaving everyone else in the dust.
“Houdini” racked up a massive 49,000 sold copies in its first week, making it the best-selling track in the country. Shady’s back on top of the Digital Songs Sales chart for the 12th time. And for the first time since “The Adventures of Moon Mann & Slim Shady” in July 2020. Even “Godzilla” was only able to chart at No.3 on this list.
But Eminem is not just a sales king; he is also a streaming slayer. “Houdini” blasted past the competition to become the No. 1 streamed song in the US, topping the Streaming Songs list and both the R&B/Hip-Hop and Rap Streaming Songs charts.
Notably, “Houdini” is not just a hit on Eminem’s home turf. This track has catapulted to the top of both the Billboard Global 200 and the Billboard Global Excl. US charts, marking Marshall’s first-ever No. 1 on these global platforms.
“Houdini” is charting at No.1 on the following Billboard rankings:
1. Global 2002. Global Excl. US3. Streaming Songs4. Digital Song Sales5. Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs6. R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs7. R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales8. Hot Rap Songs9. Rap Streaming Songs10. Rap Digital Song Sales
Sure, “Houdini” might have settled for No. 2 on the Hot 100 for now, but No.2 is nothing to be scoffed at. And while we might be annoyed that the single didn’t go higher only because of the low number of radio plays, we know it is a good result. Eminem’s solo song didn’t go that high on the Hot 100 since “Without Me” in 2002. Eminem is back with a vengeance 22 years later, and “Houdini” is a sign that the rap game is about to get a whole lot more interesting.
