Cody Rhodes’ title will be the engine that drives the following WWE storylines.
Tension continues to build in WWE heading into SummerSlam 2024. Cody Rhodes’ most recent storyline seems to have been resolved. Nevertheless, a new story is beginning to emerge. With the returns of The Rock and Roman Reigns to the promotion, the pieces are aligning for a new and unexpected rivalry.
Just this April, Rhodes emerged victorious from a long feud with Reigns. On Night 2 of WWE’s WrestleMania XL, “The American Nightmare” won the WWE Undisputed Championship by defeating “The Tribal Chief” in a Bloodline Rules match.
With the readjustments that have occurred in the WWE camps, especially within The Bloodline, new rivalries are emerging for Rhodes. Sikoa is the new boss of The Bloodline, putting him on a collision course with Rhodes.
The return of The Rock also promises new rivalries, not only with “The American Nightmare,” but with his cousin, Roman Reigns. The new storylines will be defined this weekend in Cleveland, the scene of the next SummerSlam. However, analysts are already beginning to speculate about the immediate future of WWE.
The future of The Rock in WWE
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s bursting on the WWE scene opened many questions, as highlighted by Tommy Dreamer and Bully Ray, hosts of the Busted Open Podcast.
“When Roman does come back, there are going to be questions. And a lot of those questions are going to be, where does Roman stand? Because there’s still going to be the return of somebody else. And that is The Rock,” the hosts established.
“The Rock is coming back at some point as well. Which makes it very interesting about what’s going to take place on Saturday,” during Summer Slam.
While Johnson is unlikely to make an appearance at WWE’s next big event due to his schedule, his role in the promotion’s upcoming storylines will become more evident with the outcome of the championship match between Cody Rhodes and Solo Sikoa.
Will Rhodes retain his championship?
According to the guys at Busted Open, “On paper, you look at Cody Rhodes vs. Solo Sikoa for the undisputed WWE Championship, and it sounds like a no-brainer that Cody Rhodes is going to defend his title at SummerSlam. But I’m not too sure.”
Bookmakers are already starting to speculate about the possible main event of WrestleMania 41 and one of the strongest contenders is a match between Reigns and The Rock. To spice up the storyline, Rhodes could retain his title against Sikoa and then put it on the line against The Tribal Chief.
Nothing is set in stone yet, but all signs point to The Rock returning to WWE sooner or later, and when he does, it won’t be for a supporting role.
