‘This collection goes back to our DNA’ Matthew Williamson unveils exotic collection of billowing gowns admired from front row by Olivia Palermo and Nicole Scherzinger

Missing summer already? Look away now.

Matthew Williamson, a London fashion week stalwart, unveiled his lust-worthy SS15 collection that no doubt had his front row (packed with the likes of Olivia Palermo, Poppy Delevingne and Nicole Scherzinger) longing for next year’s hazy days.

Inspired by photographs of Marie Helvin in David Bailey’s book Chasing Rainbows, Matthew’s colourful SS15 collection had a grass-roots approach.

Here comes the sun! Matthew Williamson, a London fashion week stalwart, unveiled his lust-worthy SS15 collection full of exotic maxis today

‘I wanted this to be a real, honest collection,’ he said of his inspiration. ‘It goes back to our DNA and is a celebration of what we as a brand do with both strength and passion.’

The 70s inspired collection was packed with exotic summer pieces – think light silks maxi dresses with slashed hems, feather embellished totes and fluid skirts.

Taking a Balinese hibiscus flower as his point of reference, Matthew emblazoned blouses and halter-neck dresses with floral motifs and added a touch of sparkle with sequinned embroidery.

Perfect for Ibiza, the dresses were billowy (we bet Sienna Miller has her eye on a few pieces) and suits were loosely cut and came in azure and peacock blue. Elsewhere, dresses came in hues of rosy orange and hot pink; he really did capture the summer sun with this collection.

Backstage, beauty buffs Charlotte Tilbury, working for Benefit Cosmetic’s They’re Real, and Mark Hampton, coiffing hair for Toni & Guy Hair Meets Wardrobe, created a beauty look inspired by Matthew’s designs.

‘Matthew’s collection is a nod to the 70s so I’ve taken that into account with the beauty look,’ Charlotte Tilbury told us backstage ahead of the show.

‘He took the Hibiscus flower as a point of reference and I translated that to the make-up with a dewy, wet look. I used my Magic Cream to really moisturise the skin and give it a gorgeous fresh, dewy glow.

‘Then used Benefit’s Girl Meets Pearl on the cheeks to give them a glow and the Speed Brow to create natural, tinted brows.’

The make-up artist, who counts Kate Moss and Poppy Delevingne as her best pals, explained that the look was all about the eyeliner.

She used cream eyeshadows to give eyes a glow and brightened them up with purple hues all over and beneath the lash line before plumping up lashes with They’re Real mascara and slicking on lashings of the brand’s new liner of the same name.

Cheeks were given a pop of colour with lipstick used as blusher and a peachy, nude hue was slicked onto lips.

Hair was styled into what Mark dubbed ‘the flirtatious bounce’ to ooze a 70s glamorous vibe. The look was designed to look ‘undone’ with voluminous waves creating a cool, understated look that bounced along the catwalk to the cool, hip hop soundtrack.
