Hc Andy Reid & Mahomes give Travis Kelce injury update after Chiefs Wins over Browns (video)

In a thrilling showdown, the Kansas City Chiefs emerged victorious against the Cleveland Browns, but the celebration was somewhat muted due to concerns about star tight end Travis Kelce’s injury. Following the game, head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes addressed the media, providing updates on Kelce’s condition and reflecting on the team’s performance.

Mahomes, who himself battled an injury during the game, shared that he felt confident enough to continue playing but acknowledged the decision to substitute him was a wise one. “I thought the smart decision was to put Carson in,” Mahomes noted, referring to backup quarterback Carson Wentz. Mahomes described the moment he was injured while trying to make a crucial play on fourth down, stating, “I got hit in the [ankle] and felt someone hit me from behind as well. It kind of happens in football.” He emphasized the importance of focusing on rehabilitation in preparation for the upcoming game, indicating he is optimistic about his recovery.

Reid echoed Mahomes’ sentiments, emphasizing that early indications suggested Kelce’s injury was not serious. “It’s not broken,” Reid confirmed, while also noting that the situation would be evaluated on a day-to-day basis. He acknowledged Kelce’s desire to return to the game but praised the depth of the team, stating that Wentz stepped up admirably in Mahomes’ absence.

The Chiefs showcased a strong performance overall, with both the offense and defense contributing to the win. Reid praised the offensive line, particularly Joe Thuney, who filled in at left tackle, and highlighted the collective effort of the team. “Everybody kind of got a piece of the pie,” he remarked, referencing contributions from various players, including special teams.

Despite the win, Mahomes admitted that the team has room for improvement. “We have good spurts offensively, but we’re not playing the football that we want to be playing,” he said. He acknowledged the need for better execution as they approach the postseason, emphasizing the importance of finding consistency in their play.

As the Chiefs prepare for their next matchup, both Mahomes and Reid are focused on ensuring the team is ready to face the challenges ahead, particularly with the uncertainties surrounding Kelce’s health. The Chiefs, despite their ups and downs this season, remain determined to build momentum as they head towards the playoffs, eager to capitalize on their strengths while addressing their weaknesses.
