A plethora of Manchester United supporters waxed lyrical about midfielder Dan Gore after he produced an eye-catching cameo performance in Wednesday afternoon’s 1-0 win over Lyon at Murrayfield Stadium.

The youngster, who scooped the Denzil Haroun Reserve Player of the Year award last season, stepped off the bench at half-time to provide the assist for Donny van de Beek’s winner. The midfielder sent over a brilliant cross from the byline and the Dutchman connected with it to smash home the only goal of the game.

Gore, who will celebrate his 19th birthday in September, was one of ten players introduced by manager Erik ten Hag at half-time, joining forces with Van de Beek and Fred in midfield. He benefitted from their experience, enabling him to strut his stuff and leave his calling card.

As well as providing a superb match-winning assist, he was neat and tidy in possession, helping United dictate proceedings in the second half. He also offered an insight to the other side of his game, proving hungry to win possession back and put in a tackle.

The midfielder, who also stepped off the bench against Leeds United in Oslo last week, had 42 touches of the ball, completed 26 passes and, of course, grabbed an assist. It was an all-round performance that grabbed your attention and left you pondering about his potential.

Though it is easy to get too carried away after players produce encouraging performances in pre-season, no shortage of United supporters found it difficult to stop themselves from showering Gore with praise, with some comparing him to Barcelona and Spain star Gavi. Below, MEN Sport has taken a close look at what some of them had to say on social media.
