Manchester United are set to miss out on signing Benjamin Pavard from Bayern Munich.
The deal has reportedly been held up by the collapse of Harry Maguire’s sale to West Ham.
United had looked set to offload Maguire after agreeing a £30million deal with the Hammers.
However, the deal fell through this week after Maguire demanded United hand him a £15million pay-off to make up for his lower salary in East London.
West Ham are now looking at alternative targets, including ex-Arsenal man Konstantinos Mavropanos, with Maguire set to stay at Old Trafford.
The England defender was even included on the bench for Monday’s Premier League opener against Wolves.
According to Fabrizio Romano, this has made United’s move for Pavard more complicated.
The Red Devils are understood to not have enough money to sign the Frenchman unless they sell Maguire.
Pavard, who is in the final year of his contract, is valued at £35million by the German champions and is desperate to join United.
The club have made contact with Bayern over a deal, with Pavard one of four names on Erik ten Hag’s shortlist of defensive targets.
A World Cup winner with France, Pavard joined Bayern back in 2019.
He has since made 163 appearances for the club, including last weekend’s German Super Cup defeat to RB Leipzig.
