A new four-door convertible super-EV has been unveiled – and it is claimed to be able to blast from London to Aberdeen without needing to stop to charge.
US car maker Fisker has revealed its new Ronin, which it says can hit 60mph from a standing start in ‘approximately two seconds’ and produces a monumental 1,000bhp.
But that’s not its most impressive feat, because the electric sports car – which is named after the John Frankenheimer film with one of the greatest big-screen car chases of all time – is said to be able to go for 600 miles on a single charge.
It won’t be cheap though, with boss Henrik Fisker providing a ballpark price tag that will make it more expensive than most new Ferraris when it eventually hits the market in 2025.

Fisker says the Ronin is the ‘world’s first all-electric four-door convertible GT sports car’.
Featuring five seats and a carbon-fibre roof that can be lowered, it is super-EV that can be enjoyed by the entire family.
It ticks the usual supercar ‘musts haves’: incredible speed, a luxury interior with loads of tech, a svelte design and funky doors – in this case, butterfly doors that open upward.
Power comes from an integrated battery pack that incorporates the battery cells into the unique aluminum space frame chassis structure.
This is linked to a triple motor all-wheel drive powertrain that’s ‘projected to deliver massive 1,000-plus horsepower’.
It has a ‘projected’ 0-to-60mph time of ‘approximately two seconds’ and a 170mph top speed.
‘Ronin will be able to match up with or surpass any supercar currently on the market,’ the company said.
Yet in spite of its incredible performance, Fisker also says it will be able to cover extended distances on a single charge.
Boasting around 600 miles of range, it would be able to get from London to Aberdeen with 55 miles to spare – though CEO Henrik Fisker used more glamourous examples when describing the luxury GT’s capabilities: ‘The Fisker Rōnin is for people who love to drive, but who are also thrilled by automotive art and design and demand that their high-performance vehicles embrace a sustainable future.
‘Our goal was to create a classic grand touring car, updated for the 21st century and engineered for customers who want to drive from Los Angeles to Napa Valley on a single charge or take on the autobahn at steady high speeds without concern for battery capacity.’
It’s unique butterfly doors are said to ‘ensure easy rear-seat access’ and uses a single door handle on each side, as the front doors open electrically by swiping the handle or by using a smartphone. The handle then extends when the rear doors are ready to be opened.
All doors can be opened remotely by a smartphone, and the foldable, carbon-fibre hardtop will also be smartphone activated and automatically retract into the trunk.
While this will take up much of the rear luggage space, there will be additional storage capacity in the front trunk.
To save weight, even the 23-inch wheels are made from carbon fibre, meaning they’ll be very expensive to repair if kerbed.
The interior is made exclusively out of recycled and sustainable materials, with the goal of making Ronin ‘the world’s most sustainable supercar’.
It does have tech, though, including a 17.1-inch high-resolution screen and an instrument cluster positioned in front of the driver.
Fisker says it is one of the cars it aims to bring to market in the coming years as part of the brand’s mission to ‘create the world’s most emotional and sustainable electric vehicles’.
But the Ronin will come at a price – and one that will be too steep for most of us.
Fisker revealed it will cost $385,000, which translated to just over £300k in the UK. And just 999 will be built.
For now, it is taking reservations for the Ronin at $2,000 (around £1,500) a pop.
It was showcased in Huntington Beach, California, last week as the Manhattan Beach-based EV-maker presented four vehicles in total, as well as technology and sustainability visions, to investors, analysts, employees, and the media.
‘Fisker isn’t standing still.
‘We want the world to know that we have big plans and intend to move into several different segments, redefining each with our unique blend of design, innovation, and sustainability,’ the CEO said.
He added: ‘Innovation and sustainability, along with design, are our three brand values.
‘By 2027, we intend to produce the world’s first climate-neutral vehicle, and as our customers reinvent their relationships with mobility, we want to be a leader in software-defined transportation.’
Three more Fiskers due to be launched between now and 2025
As well as the Ronin, Fisker also unveiled its new PEAR, which stands for Personal Electric Automotive Revolution.
The compact SUV is described by the brand as a ‘category-breaking lifestyle vehicle’ that’s built on Fisker’s SLV-1 platform using its in-house ‘Steel++ development process’, which it claims results in the use of 35 per cent fewer parts than other EVs in class.
The family motor features a unique ‘Houdini Trunk’, which is a front storage compartment that it refers to as a ‘Froot’ – a front boot – and a spacious interior with seating for up to six.
The futuristic design includes an ultra-wide wraparound windscreen, sculptural exterior design, and slim LED lighting.
It is due to hit US roads in mid-2025 from $29,900, which is around £23,500 in the UK.
Also due to launch in 2025 is the Alaska – a powerful all-electric four-door pick-up truck.
It will be produced on an extended adaptation of Fisker Ocean’s platform – the family-friendly SUV due to go on sale in Britain in November priced from £35,970.
The utilitarian vehicle has an extendable cargo bed, which can be adjusted from 4.5 to 7.5 or 9.2 feet.
Fisker says it will be the ‘world’s lightest’ and ‘world’s most sustainable’ electric pick-up truck and should have a range of 230 to 340 miles.
Prices will start from $45,400 (£35,500) when it arrives in two years’ time. Reservations can be placed for $250 (£196) today and are fully refundable if a driver changes their mind
The final new model unveiled is the Force E – a ‘dynamic and durable off-road package’ for the Fisker Ocean.
