Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola gave a heavily sarcastic response to a question about Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe.
Pep Guardiola batted away a question over Manchester City’s reported interest in Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe with an answer dripping in sarcasm.
Mbappe has reportedly decided to leave PSG this summer, and reports in Spain suggest the Frenchman has ‘already signed’ a contract with Real Madrid. Another report suggests that the City Football Group may have met with Mbappe’s representatives themselves, prompting a question to Guardiola in his press conference ahead of the Premier League clash with Brentford.
Asked what he thought of Mbappe as a player, Guardiola let his mischievous side out with his answer that gave nothing away regarding an unlikely move for the Frenchman.
“I think he’s quite good,” the City boss smiled. “He has a future. He’s really really good.”
The Blues are already looking ahead to the summer transfer window with a move for Troyes winger Savio, currently on loan at another City Football Group sister-club in Girona. Their transfer business will, as ever, depend on players who leave, and that is not thought to include Erling Haaland after just two seasons at the Etihad.
Haaland has a contract with City until 2027, and has 73 goals in 80 appearances for the Blues, along with 15 assists. Madrid have long been linked with Haaland in the future, with the Norwegian’s camp remaining open over his future and his desire to prove himself in multiple leagues. However, Haaland is happy in Manchester and Mbappe’s potential signing at the Bernabeu could give both clubs clarity over their attacking options for the foreseeable future.
Julian Alvarez is another striker at City’s disposal, and the World Cup winner has also been linked with Real Madrid. However, he too is unlikely to leave the Etihad.
