Lewis Hamilton and George Russell have been competing as teammates since 2022.
George Russell and Lewis Hamilton are two highly capable drivers at Silver Arrows. Both drivers have an equal desire to perform on the grid. Due to this, both the Britons were spotted clashing heads on the track during the Spanish GP. However, team principal Toto Wolff believes that there is no personal grudge against one another at Brackley.
George Russell was spotted lashing out at Lewis Hamilton during the Qualifying session at the Spanish GP. Additionally, after the plethora of rumors that Hamilton’s chassis is sabotaged against Russell, the team couldn’t really order both drivers to swap places toward the end of the race.
Upon this, Toto Wolff claimed that there would always be rivalry between the two drivers. However, both drivers were highly respectful towards each other and hence caused no problems further.
” There will always be a rivalry between drivers, especially when the car is capable of winning. It’s normal. But the two are very respectful to each other “. We are very transparent in the team.
Toto Wolff said, as reported by motorsportweek.com.
Wolff had learned the lesson of letting such things go after witnessing the greatest rivalry between Hamilton and Nico Rosberg at Mercedes. Additionally, the team tried their best to not let animosity grow between the two teammates at Brackley. Subsequently, the Austrian boss labeled the entire situation as the ‘usual business’ of Formula 1.
” That’s a lesson I have learned, we are not holding back, we are not letting anything grow in terms of animosity and from that angle, I think it’s business as usual”.
Toto Wolff added.
Lewis Hamilton labeled Spanish GP as the ‘best weekend’ of 2024
The start of the 2024 season witnessed Mercedes’ struggling pace during the ground-effect era. The team was incapable of producing any impressive results against the in-form rivals since the start. However, the team showcased a great turnaround after implementing multiple in-season upgrades. Additionally, Lewis Hamilton scored his first podium of the season which brought him immense delight.
As a result, Hamilton labeled the Spanish weekend as one of the best in the 2024 season. The Briton recalled the disappointing run in the past 15 races and how it felt good to finally be back. Moreover, the 39-year-old highlighted that it was great to have battles like those on track as it helps reassert and reaffirm the team’s position on the grid.
” This is the best weekend I’ve had all year, and for a long, long time, for like 15 races or something crazy. It’s good to be back, it’s good to have battles like today, it’s good to reassert and reaffirm”. Lewis Hamilton said, as reported by formula1.com.
Mercedes will continue to bring in multiple in-season upgrades further to improve performance. The team is finally able to gain control over their position in the championship standings. However, Brackley still has a long way to go in order to match Red Bull’s pace and performance in the 2024 season.
