Lewis Hamilton won the 2024 British GP, breaking a long losing streak of 945 days. The seven-time world champion surpassed Michael Schumacher for the most F1 wins at a circuit. Hamilton was in tears as he celebrated his long-awaited victory.
Lewis Hamilton, when interviewed after winning at Silverstone, expressed overwhelming emotions. He described the race as a surreal experience just like a fairytale. Hamilton admitted that crossing the finish line unleashed intense feelings he had been holding back for a long time. He highlighted the importance of Silverstone, a track where he has had many memorable moments in the past. Winning there this time was deeply emotional and anything he had ever felt before in his career.
” My heart is racing. I believe this circuit has given me so many amazing times both now and in the past. But as I crossed that finish line, something within me was released that I had apparently been holding back for too long. Winning this race was the most emotional experience I have ever had.” Lewis Hamilton said !
Further, Hamilton reflected on his emotions after the race, revealing that he rarely cries, but the victory at Silverstone made him cry. He credited this to the challenges faced in 2021, both personally and as a team. Lewis Hamilton admitted that there were moments when he considered not continuing due to the doubts and struggles that arrived in his mind. Despite these difficulties, he stayed, and the victory at Silverstone marked a triumphant comeback for the seven time world champion. This brought a flood of emotions which he had not experienced in a long time.
“I always wondered why I never cried; it doesn’t happen to me often, but it hit me hard. I think after such a difficult 2021, I tried to continue to come back, but our team had a difficult time. There were so many thoughts and doubts in my mind to the point where I considered not continuing anymore.” Lewis Hamilton explained!

Lewis Hamilton’s race engineer Peter ‘Bono’ Bennington had the opportunity of lifting the long-awaited win’s trophy of Hamilton at the British GP. A reporter after the race asked Bono about crying on the radio with Lewis Hamilton after their awaited win. Bono humorously mentioned he had something in his eye, which made emotions flow. He highlighted that it had been a long journey for them, with a lot of hard work put into reclaiming their position at the top. Despite facing challenges, they stayed persistent in their efforts to achieve success once again.
“I won’t say crying, I had something in my eye. It’s been a long time. We have been working hard trying to get back to the top.” Peter Bonnington stated !
