Athletes from several different sports have made a name for themselves in the media world over the last few years, and they’ve often taken a non-traditional approach.
For decades, athletes were only able to have their voices heard on certain topics if they had a platform on TV as an analyst or worked as a radio host.
The popularity of podcasts eventually reached the sports world, and many athletes have started their own shows.
The podcast space gives players a chance to control their own narrative, and to add a revenue stream outside of their sport.
That’s certainly the case for both Jason and Travis Kelce, as the brothers just signed a new deal for their “New Heights” podcast.
According to Variety, the Kelce brothers have signed a deal worth more than $100 million with Amazon’s podcast studio Wondery.
Fans are reacting to the big news on social media.
“A deal that should not only be lucrative for the Kelce brothers but also for Amazon… many congrats…,” said one fan.
“Two brothers who know how to make the most out of their situation. Have to give credit where credit is due,” another fan said.
“I know their podcast was already kinda popular but that was among football fans and you can’t convince me they would get this deal if Travis wasn’t dating Taylor,” one fan said, crediting the rise of the show to the Swift-Kelce relationship.
“podcast money starting to look like NBA contracts that’s crazy,” one fan added.
“These guys stay winning on and off the field,” said another fan.
“Omg. Jason and Travis Kelce just signed a podcast deal for an alleged $100m. Wonder who their first guest star will be?,” another fan asked, hoping for a Swift appearance on the podcast.
The podcast news is another addition to a great year for the Kelce brothers. Jason is set to begin a new job as an analyst for ESPN, while Travis is gearing up for the 2024 season with the Kansas City Chiefs.
He’ll look to add yet another Super Bowl ring to his impressive career resume this season.
