Fans are melting over a sweet interaction caught on video between star quarterback Patrick Mahomes and a young fan during the 2024 NFL season opener on Thursday, Sept. 5.

Mahomes, 28, led his Kansas City Chiefs to a victory in the first game of the season as the team defeated the Baltimore Ravens 27-20 on the Chiefs’ home turf. Thursday’s game at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo., marked the Chiefs’ first regular season game since winning their second consecutive Super Bowl in February.

In footage shared on Instagram by a Chiefs fan account, Mahomes walked over to a man holding a sign that explained the young fan standing beside him was attending his first game. The man holding the sign held out a football, seemingly hoping Mahomes would sign it. Instead, the quarterback handed the kid what appeared to be the red headband he’d worn during the game.

“QB1 making this fan’s first game extra special 🤩,” the fan account wrote to caption the video.

Fans applauded Mahomes’ sweet gesture in the post’s comment section, with several giving the quarterback high praise for his thoughtfulness and one person admitting they had “admired his headband all night!!!”

“Mahomes is the total package. I mean, how lucky can a city get? The guy not only understands football….but he understands life,” one person gushed, adding that the team’s fans are “blessed” before cheering, “Go Chiefs!!!!!! 🏈❤️🏈❤️🏈❤️.”

Another fan agreed with the declaration, writing, “That is the ‘Total Package Quarterback’ right there!🔥❤️.”

One Chiefs fan said they loved the video “so much it almost hurts 😂,” while another dubbed Mahomes’ behavior “All class.”

“Mahomes is a humble person he just himself. ❤️,” one Instagram user wrote.

“Man of the people!” another Instagram user cheered.

With the first game of the 2024 season now over, the Chiefs will move forward in their pursuit of a third consecutive Super Bowl
