Superstar actor-comedian Kevin Hart says he is now in a wheelchair after he tore multiple muscles while racing against a former NFL running back who helped the New England Patriots win one of their six Super Bowl titles.
In a video posted to his Instagram account Wednesday, Hart said he got into a debate with Stevan Ridley as to who was faster.
“Those who know me know I’m pretty fast. Stevan said: ‘Kevin, ain’t no way you’re going to beat me,'” Hart said.
Hart and Ridley decided to settle the debate by running a 40-yard dash. Unfortunately, the race did not go well for the 44-year-old entertainer.
“Tore my lower abdomen and my abductors are torn. I don’t even know what that is, but I tore them,” Hart said in the Instagram video. “I can’t walk.”
Ridley, 34, is five years removed from an NFL career that spanned eight seasons. He was a third-round draft pick of the Patriots in 2011, and the Louisiana State University product played the first four seasons with New England.
Ridley helped the Patriots get out to a 4-2 start during the 2014 season, but tore the ACL and MCL in his right knee in Week 6. New England went on to defeat the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX by the end of that season. He ran for 3,102 yards and 24 touchdowns in 73 career regular-season games.
“I saw Tom Brady do it at your age, so I figured you had the juice too big bro!” Ridley wrote in an Instagram story. “My bad Kevin Hart! Heal up and keep making us all laugh!”
“Ladies and gentlemen, the age of 40 is real,” Hart said in his video. “To all my men and women out there that are 40 years old and above, it’s not a game. Respect that age. Respect that age, or that age will make you respect it. I was just forced to respect it.”
Hart did not state how long it will take him to recover from his abdomen or abductor injuries.
